Lately I’ve increasingly felt that I need a movie list. There’s nothing worth watching on TV, and what I see on the various streaming services only barely scratches the surface of what I’m actually curious about. Also, if I like something, it can simply vanish from the catalog from one moment to the next. I love sci-fi. I thought I had already seen every good movie there was. In the meantime I realized I couldn’t have been more wrong.
For now I’m still just figuring out what I can actually use Substack for. But if I really manage to collect 366 events and sci-fi movies, this is going to be a very long list. And what might be even more annoying for readers is that the posts don’t come in chronological order. Not to mention figuring out when the next free post is coming. So I meant this post to be a little guide.

Since cyber is an important element of sci-fi, and as we know, cyber is Monday, every Monday post will also be available to everyone. :)
I’m not sure about this yet, but maybe every post covering an event or movie older than 6 months will also become available to everyone.
And if I have time and energy, a weekly newsletter with current weekly sci-fi recommendations.
Good question, what else there will be. But I hope we’ll figure that out together. :)

The Background Story
And now I’ll continue the background story for those who want to know more. And thank you for that.
I started this project around mid April. Back then I was only thinking in terms of YouTube content. But alongside my day job, having to research, write, record, create a video, publish it, and pray every day that someone would actually watch it took up quite a lot of my energy. The movie selection was basically done by the end of May. I skipped June, and at the start of July I finally pushed myself to dive back in.
On July 8th I published the first almanac post on Substack, which covered July 1st. Pretty timely timing, right? :D
That’s exactly my problem right now, I have to work both forward and backward at the same time. I hope you’ll like this concept too, and that I’ll be able to continue it next year with different events, different movies, a completely new selection. But in the meantime, how can you browse this calendar more efficiently?
The Calendar Idea
Luckily, my wife gave me the answer. Why don’t you make a calendar view for the website, where the entries contain each individual movie?
That’s when I felt like a complete idiot. The plan was that the finished almanac might someday be published as an ebook or in the form of an advent calendar. But that it could also appear this way on a website? That never even occurred to me.

For now I don’t know whether I’ll also create Substack posts going backward, maybe even videos about the earlier days. We’ll see about that when we get there. Right now I’m working on the August posts, meaning the longer articles.
